NOW HERE WE ARE CAUGHT IN THE WILDFIRE
AND EDITING BY
Mandolin Orange's song Wildfire is truly the love of my soul lately...
A provoking tale of this country's history, the song swings in a narrative of the American Civil War, one of the many stains on our country's flag which burns coarse holes through its star spangled stripes. A tale usually only told by the victor, it is cursed daily as purely an act of extreme discrimination, injustice, and violation of humanity as a whole-- yet we forget that the other side was made up of people, Americans, just like you and I, with families, hopes, and dreams, all swept away in a wildfire. As our country now seems more split than ever, we forget that what we've always fought over has been pride, money, and fear; three fundamentally human weaknesses that no one is free from. We also forget how, regardless of racial lines or class, the majority electorate who voted in our new president are ordinary, hard working, people, Americans, who for better or worse fought for their voices to be heard after having been met with ridicule and dismissal for much of our modern history. We forget that the brutality of our past can again become our present, for war does not discriminate as people may, and blood is spilled and men are killed no matter what side they're fighting for. It is important that we stand together in the face of uncertainty, and remember that if we are to be truly Stronger Together, that starts by reaching out and accepting all of our fellow Americans. United We Stand, we the People, we the lovers, partners in crime, bringers of peace-- past, present, and future.
There is true beauty when history is captured in song, but also in clothing. I love soulful pieces like this incredible Baroque style Mesh Lace Dress from Silver Boutique Ojai, bringing vintage glamour to a modern silhouette. I've fallen in love with lace up details, and so it was a match made in heaven when I found this Country Style Black Brim Hat from the Brooklyn Hat Co with little leather hatching details on the side. The Brooklyn Hat Co has been praised for its ability to blend urban refinement with a rustic edge of the American frontier, built both for fashion and functionality, and riddled with the stories of our American past.
